General Information about Bite Ramps

What are Bite Ramps

Bite ramps are thermoformed features built into ClearCorrect aligners that create premature contact in the anterior or posterior region, which then takes the teeth out of occlusion helping to remove unwanted bite forces to allow certain tooth movements and correction to take place.

Indications

Bite Ramps are commonly used for:

    • Treating deep bites
    • Treating crossbites
    • Treating open bites
    • Leveling the Curve of Spee

Types of Bite Ramps

There are two classifications for bite ramps:

Anterior Bite Ramps

Placeon the palatal surface in the upper anterior region, you can customize the placement in your treatment setup:

  • Central Incisors
  • Lateral Incisors
  • Canines

They are commonly used to treat deep overbites/deep bites.

Posterior Bite Ramps

Posterior bite ramps are placed on the occlusal surface of the premolars or molars, in either the upper, lower or both arches. This feature has a coin design on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth and are built into the aligner without additional procedures.

They are commonly used to treat both anterior or posterior crossbites and/or open bites.

Default Protocols

Anterior Default Protocols

  • Anterior Bite Ramps will be placed on the palatal surface in the upper 4 anterior teeth.
  • If Anterior Bite Ramps don’t contact the opposing arch, the bite ramps will be placed only on the canines.
  • Anterior Bite Ramp depth is 3 mm.
  • No Arch Correction Simulation (ACS) will be applied unless specifically requested by the clinician.
  • Anterior Bite ramps can be requested on new or existing cases through a revision (additional charges may apply).
